Do you want to know about our scholarship opportunities?

Mike Sanford and Scott Endy were both former participants of Trinity Youth Conference. The camp experience was so powerful for both of them that scholarships have been started in their names.

The Mike Sanford Scholarship

For First Time Campers

For questions about the scholarship and to apply, please contact Jason Best, a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of TYC, at (717) 468-6106 or registrar@trinityyouthconference.org.

Mike Sanford was a member of the Staff of the Synod of the Trinity who had no responsibilities for youth ministry in the synod, but who was sent to Trinity Youth Conference (according to Mike) by the Synod Executive, the late Dr. William Rush, to "keep an eye on the youth." For those who knew Mike, that seemed like asking the fox to watch the henhouse. For he not only fit in and enjoyed himself...he was somewhat of an instigator. Few people have brought more joy to the participants at TYC than Mike Sanford, and fewer still have been able to inspire as he had.

Mike had a personal tradition of singing at the talent show every year. He always sang a song about the happenings and the people of that particular year to the tune of a popular Christmas carol, inviting everyone to join him on the chorus. Mike is also responsible for the very special grace before our picnic dinner at Shawnee State Park. And from his mind, came forth the idea for the greatest TYC shirt ever. Every year on Saturday morning, Mike donned his bright yellow t-shirt, which everyone looked forward to seeing as it marked the end of the week and gave us the hope of looking forward to next year.

Sadly, in the Fall of 1988, Mike was taken from us in an automobile accident, and was called home to join the church triumphant. His was a great memorial service - attended by high-ranking church officials from around the country as well as dozens of TYCers from across nearly two decades of conferences. All were there to celebrate the life of a truly great man, loved and admired by so many. We now honor Mike with a memorial fund in his name, established in 1988 to benefit first-time TYC participants.

Sustaining the Fund

TYC is, in so many ways, reliant on first-time participants for its continued vitality, recognizing that each of the members of our TYC family were once first-time participants themselves. It is for this reason that the Mike Sanford Scholarship specifically benefits first-time participants. The Friends of TYC is reliant on donations in order to sustain this fund, and greatly appreciates gifts of any size.

The Scott Endy Memorial Fund

For Campers with Financial Concerns

A dear friend and special member of the TYC family, Scott Endy, went to be with our Lord on December 13, 2013 after a long and courageous battle against Sarcoma, a very aggressive form of cancer. He fought the good fight with dignity and grace. Scott was a gentle giant, a man of great integrity with a positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor both during his time at TYC and afterwards. Scott was the kind of person that would take the shirt off his back if his friend needed it. Scott inspired us.

On January 3, 2014, at the TYC Holiday Gala, the Scott Endy Memorial Fund (the “Fund”) was officially announced. The Fund, as described by Scott before his passing, will be used to provide individuals the opportunity to attend TYC if they are in need of financial support to do so, no matter what the reason. Scott requested that the Fund benefit participants who desire to attend TYC, who submit an application to Friends of TYC, and who agree to the terms (or as Scott called them, “the catch”) of the Fund. So what's the catch? Scott stated that the recipient(s) must return to TYC the following year and bring a friend with them. The Friends of TYC also requests that Fund recipient(s) write a letter to Scott’s beloved wife, Gina, thanking her for the opportunity they had because of Scott and this Fund. from the Scott Endy Memorial Fund are available to all participants, whether new to TYC or returning, who:

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Attend TYC the year the scholarship is applied for and granted

  • Resolve to attend TYC the following year and recruit at least one participant who is new to TYC to attend the following year as well

  • Upon receipt of the scholarship, resolve to write a note of thanks to Gina Endy, Scott’s wife, following TYC (to be sent c/o endyfund@trinityyouthconference.org or via mail to Nellie Hestin at the address listed on the scholarship application)

Applications are now being accepted for TYC 2025. The application deadline, in order to be considered for a scholarship is July 1, 2025. Applications submitted before the deadline will be considered on a rolling basis.

Questions about the application process may be directed to Nellie Hestin, a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of TYC, at (412) 667-7909 or endyfund@trinityyouthconference.org.

Sustaining the Fund

An inaugural donation has been made to establish the Fund, and we ask for continuing donations to ensure a consistent, healthy fund balance for years to come. Registration fees for TYC 2024 are $450.00. There is no limit to the number of scholarships that may be awarded each year; therefore, more donations will allow for more individuals to benefit from the Fund, so please think and pray about giving to the Scott Endy Memorial Fund. Any amount donated will be a blessing to an individual who desires to take an active role in their faith and nurture their desire for TYC fellowship. If mailing your donation, please make checks payable to "Friends of TYC" and write "Scott Endy Memorial Fund" on the memo line of your check.
